The BMW M1 was a two-door supercar produced by BMW from 1978 to 1981. It was the first road car developed by M GmbH, a subsidiary of BMW specializing in the development of motorsport and high-performance vehicles.
The M1 was powered by a 3.5-litre six-cylinder engine producing 277bhp, making it capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 265km/h. It was also the first BMW to be equipped with all-wheel drive.
The M1 was developed by BMW for motorsport and was successful in the German Racing Championship (DRM) in the 1979 season. It also won the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GT class.
The M1 was a very expensive car, costing around 100,000 marks. It was also very rare, with only 453 units produced. The M1 is now a sought-after classic car and is considered one of BMW's most iconic vehicles.
